Noor, thanks for coming. Was so great to talk out some of these ideas. Please feel free to share any resources or ideas.

Today’s social justice-experiential learning session reminded me of a Paulo Freire quote:

“No pedagogy which is truly liberating can remain distant from the oppressed by treating them as unfortunates and by presenting for their emulation models from among the oppressors. The oppressed must be their own example in the struggle for their redemption (Freire, 1970, p. 54).”

Thanks Cherese! This quote from Freire speaks to exactly what Dan mentioned. People need to be empowered to share their own voices and problem-solve instead of an outsider coming in imperialistically with the answers.

Students can take action rather than be acted apron.  Students work in collaboration rather than competition. Kids see education as a chance to interact with the real world and influence change instead of feeling powerless and frightened of a world closing in on them. Hope.
